Prospect Hill Simmentals was founded in 1988, when my dad, Norbert Schuller bought his first cows at the Fall Bar 5 Sale in Douglas, Manitoba. Simmentals were always dad’s favorite breed and he came home with a truckload of cattle. In the years to follow many cows came home from breeders across Canada and some from the States. Educated as an Architect, he loved design. The cattle were a passion for dad that complimented his love of architecture. This was reflected in his construction of Prospect Hill Simmentals with a strong herd of Fullblood livestock.

He was drawn to Simmentals because of their base traits of Milk, Muscle, and Maternal skills which constructed a strong foundation.

Dad
Dad attended sales across the country where he enjoyed meeting many different Simmental breeders. He enjoyed his afternoons on the farm after his mornings in the office.

Over the years, there have been many changes here at PHS but the hardest was the passing of dad on May 18, 2003 in Red Deer, Alberta.

He fought a tough battle against cancer. He refused to let it slow him down. With dad’s passing, we had many hard decisions to make. After a great deal of reflection on our farms’ future, PHS has returned to the Simmental Breed. My mom Ann, my brother Peter, and my wife Lisa are my sounding board as we continue in the cattle business.

We currently have 700 acres of farm land in South Western Ontario, near London. We have a small and concentrated herd of Fullblood cows and have recently purchased some SA Full Fleckvieh bulls and cows to add to our breeding program.

Adding this dimension to our herd, we feel, may give us an advantage in the breed’s future. Our objective is to provide selective seed stock animals for the industry, while we continue to build on the foundation that dad constructed for us.
